Liffey (1 of 2),

in Chapelizod, 5:30pm - see
google map here
There are parking facilities. It should also be noted, that there is no slip
facility for launching and that boats will have to be lifted into water - it
is therefore only suitable for small inflatables or similar that can be
easily lifted in and out. We
suggest that people should wear weather shoes/runners as feet will get wet.
If you're interested in joining us on other small-boat rallies on our
canals and rivers, please register your
interest with us.
Just 3 RIBs participated - see the photos
here. We scored a prize, a keg of Murphy's Stout (probably trying
to sneak into Dublin) - the photos don't show the downpours just before we
started and another just before we reached dry land! |

Fleet moves to Mespil Rd.
On a quiet afternoon on 27 May 1960, there was only one barge loading
in the Grand Canal Harbour, James Street. It was the 51M, which was
being loaded with a large cargo of Guinness to go to Limerick. The boat
left for Limerick at tea-time. The 51M was the last trade boat to leave Dublin.
Fifty years after Canal Boat 51M carried
the last commercial cargo from Dublin outbound to Limerick along the
Grand Canal and River Shannon, the Heritage Boat Association (HBA) will
re-create her historic voyage.
51M will depart from the Waterways
Ireland Visitor Centre in Grand Canal Basin on Wednesday 19th May at
2pm.
The pictures show 51M on the moorings at the Box in the Docks on 8th
May 2010 and on its final delivery run in May 1960.
see here for more details.
