Sunday March 8th 2009 saw a small group of Dublin IWAI compulsive adventurers venture on our first Small Boat Rally of the year. This was held on the Royal Canal, and a small flotilla traveled from Phibsboro (6th Lock) to the 1st Lock at the North Strand Road. This section of the canal is heavily locked and they’re all doubles. We had sunshine for most of the journey with a snow flurry interrupting the proceedings as we passed Mountjoy. A highlight is passing by Croke Park although the canal is very sterile at this point. Our thanks to Des Phillips, lockkeeper and ganger, for his good-humoured assistance.
The 12th of July 2009 saw a small boay rally on the Grand Canal from the 12th to the 13th lock.
On 6th Septemebr 2009, a small boat rally was held on the Royal Canal from Confey to Carton Harbour. It poured and poured, but we were joined by "unusual" visitors!
