Barge 94E on the Grand Canal at Clanwilliam Place, Dublin - Jim Payler writes I took a b/w photo of one of the CIE boats on the canal in Dublin in 1958/9. ... I was staying at the houses backing on to the Distillery when we were over and the whiskey was great - our thanks to Jim R.I.P.
A coaster breaking the ice in Ringsend when Winter was Winter and Summer was Summer. The buildings in the background were the power station for the Dublin United Tramway and later housed the Dublin Glass Co. which in turn became Irish Glass. The boat is almost certainly a 'gas boat' , the Glencree which brought coal for the gas works - photo courtesy Alan Tomlin
More information on the Glencree can be found on www.irishships.com, my favourite being here

Another photograph taken at the same time when you could walk on the ice and the General MacMahon Bridge was still operational. What is striking is the radical change in the skyline around Bolands Mill which has taken place over the years. Photo courtesy Alan Tomlin
McMahon bridge opening. A later shot but before the construction of the Box in the Docks. It was here rumour has it that the bowsprit of a ship waiting for the bridge to open derailed a tram passing over the bridge. - Photo courtesy Alan Tomlin
